The Barolo is a powerful red wine from the Piemonte region. The Barolos all have the DOCG quality mark.
The Barolo has a deep ruby red colour that changes to garnet red as it ages. The aromas of Barolo are complex, red fruit, flowers, herbs and earthy notes such as truffle and leather. In the mouth flavours of cherries, plums, roses, tar and sometimes a hint of chocolate. The wine has firm tannins and a long finish.
Barolo must mature for at least three years before it is released onto the market, of which at least two years in oak barrels. This gives the wine its characteristic taste and aroma.
The Barolo combines best with rich dishes such as stews, game, truffle dishes and mature cheeses.
