Product information

Barolo DOCG 1961 - Coming from vineyards planted in 1961.

Garnet red wine with ruby red accents. In the nose are aromas of rose, spices, red fruit and balsamic. In the mouth the wine is powerful, complex, pleasant, elegant, pure, with beautiful rounded tannins in the long lasting aftertaste.

The wine of this 1961 Barolo comes from the oldest vineyards of Ciabot Berton, planted in 1961. The vineyards are located near the old town of La Morra in the heart of the Barolo DOCG. The location is southeast and southwest at an altitude of around 275 meters. The soil is chalky clay with sand. The planting density is 3,800 vines per ha. In the vineyard, the work is carried out manually. The vineyards are planted with the Nebbiolo vine.

The grape harvest takes place in late September, early October, after the mist (nebbia) has hung over the hills. The grapes are harvested manually, with careful selection of the best grapes. After picking, the grapes are taken to the winery, where they are gently pressed.

The fermentation process takes place, with the skins, in large steel vats for a period of at least 16 days at a controlled temperature of 30°C. The wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels of 25hl. for a period of 18 months. Further refinement takes place in concrete vats for a period of 6 months, after which the wine is bottled. In the bottle, the wine develops for at least 6 months in the cellars of the domain.

Barolo 1961 La Morra wine/food suggestion:

Ideal with roast, stewed red meat, game and mature cheeses.

About Ciabot Berton:

The foundation for Ciabot Berton was laid in the year 1876. Luigi Oberto bought his first vineyard, half a hectare, for 2,700 lire, in one of the best Crus in La Morra, "Rive". This vineyard is still owned by the family. The grapes from this vineyard are used for the "1961" Barolo.

In 1961 the first Barolos were bottled. The current "1961" Barolo is therefore connected to this vineyard, where these old vines still stand. At the moment the company is led by Marco Oberto. He is the fifth generation in the company.

In total, Ciabot Berton has 14 hectares of vineyards, all located in the La Morra Crus. Attention to quality and dedication result in elegant Barolos, which have the ability to age wonderfully.
