Product information

92/100 Points Barolo Monforte d'Alba best price/quality.

Deep and lively garnet red with ruby reflections. In the nose aromas of dark ripe fruit, berries, rose, sage, liquorice and hints of leather. In the mouth, nicely balanced, complex, nice acidity of the fruit and a long finish with velvety tannins.

The grapes come from the lowest parts of the Pajana and Ginestra vineyards located in the Ginestra and Pajana Cru of Monforte d'Alba. The soil is light sandy with calcareous marl and limestone, with a south/west exposure. The vineyard is planted with 4,500 vines per hectare.

The grapes are harvested manually in the first half of October, after careful selection. The largest part (85%) of the grapes are destemmed and softly pressed. The remaining 15% of the grapes go into the fermentation tank without pressing. Fermentation takes place for a period of 35 days, during which the must is gently pumped around. The picked grapes from the individual plots are vinified separately. The wine is matured in Slavonian oak barrels of 30 HL for a period of 30 months. During the maturation, the wine from the different plots is blended. The wine is then bottled. Here it refines for at least 6 months in the bottle in the cellar of the domain.

About Renzo Seghesio:
Since the early twentieth century the Seghesio family has been involved in the wines of the Barolo area, first by producing and selling grapes to well-known Barolo producers and later with their own magnificent Barolos. They have vineyards in La Morra in the Bricco Chiesa and Ruggeri Crus and in Monforte d'Alba in the Ginestra and Pajana Crus. The company is now managed by Federico, Renzo's son.

Wine Journalists' Rating

92/100 Points Robert Parker

The Renzo Seghesio 2019 Barolo del Comune di Monforte d'Alba is subtle at first, and the aromas take a few moments to fill the balloon of your glass. The wine reveals a dark ruby, lean appearance with dried fruit and a leafy quality of bay leaf or raked autumnal garden clippings. The wine's structure is firm, and the finish is polished.

92/100 Points James Suckling

Aromas of cherries and dried blood orange with spices, bark and dried flowers. Medium-bodied, firm and linear with chalky tannin structure and a velvety finish. Try after 2025.
