The 2019 Cerretalto opens intensely and refined with aromas of ripe black cherries, wild blueberries, dried roses, licorice, graphite, and a subtle hint of cedarwood. With further aeration, nuances of tobacco, cocoa, balsamic vinegar, and a mineral note typical of this cru develop. On the palate, this wine is powerful, deep, and exceptionally elegant. The tannins are firm yet silky, perfectly integrated with the rich fruit of black cherries and plums. The lively acidity provides freshness and balance. The finish is long and mineral, with notes of leather, spices, and a hint of bitter chocolate.
Cerretalto is a unique vineyard of just 4 hectares, located in the eastern part of Montalcino, near the Asso River. Its location is unique: cool nights, warm days, and consistent ventilation ensure slow, even ripening of the grapes.
Cerretalto's original plantings date back to the 1980s. The vineyard is meticulously maintained and replanted where necessary, maintaining a high planting density to maximize the quality of each grape.
The soil consists of a unique combination of iron-rich clay, gravel, and volcanic rock. This mineral wealth contributes to the characteristic complexity and structure of Cerretalto.
2019 was an excellent vintage in Montalcino: a classic vintage with balanced growing conditions. A relatively cool spring, a warm but not excessively hot summer, and perfect conditions in September resulted in top-quality grapes.
The Sangiovese grapes for Cerretalto 2019 were harvested entirely by hand between late September and early October, at the optimum moment of phenolic ripeness.
After careful selection of the grapes, they undergo spontaneous fermentation in open vats with regular manual pigeage. Skin maceration lasts approximately 30 days. The wine is then transferred to oak barrels for further aging.
The Cerretalto 2019 was aged for 36 months in French oak barrels, followed by a minimum of 24 months in bottle. This extended aging contributes to its depth, finesse, and aging potential.
Wine and food pairing
This majestic Brunello pairs perfectly with truffle dishes, game ragout, grilled red meat, roast lamb, osso buco, or aged cheeses. It's also delicious as a meditation wine on its own, by a good book, or by the fireplace.
