Beautiful Single Vineyard Rosso di Montalcino DOC - 91/100 points Parker

Ruby red wine with lively sparkles. In the nose intense aromas of fresh pepper, rosemary, and cherries. In the mouth the wine is wonderfully fresh, cherries, blackberries, with a wonderful complexity and rich. The aftertaste is full and harmonious.

The grapes of this Rosso come from the Gauggiole vineyard, located northwest of Montalcino. The unique characteristics of this vineyard, the soil conditions, mainly clay with salty minerals and sand. The vineyard is located at an altitude of 250 meters. The vineyard is planted with 6,500 vines per hectare. The exposure is northeast. The vineyard is 8 hectares in total.

The grapes are harvested by hand in September, after careful selection. Fermentation takes place, with natural yeasts, in large steel vats, for a period of 15 to 20 days. The wine is aged for a period of 6 months in steel vats and then for 6 months in concrete vats, this to enhance its elegant complexity and preserve the primary aromas that the vineyard expresses, which keeps it fresh, fruity and crisp. The wine is then bottled and refined in the bottle for another 6 months in the estate's cellars.

About Castiglione del Bosco:
The history of Castiglion del Bosco dates back to 1100 AD, amidst armed struggles of great Sienese families, who settled here. Agriculture has always been a mainstay, as evidenced by the stables, olive groves, farmland and vineyards. In more recent history, Castiglion del Bosco became a founding member of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium in 1967. Castiglion del Bosco began a new chapter in 2003, when it was transformed by Massimo and Chiara Ferragamo to its current glory. Castiglion del Bosco has gained worldwide recognition for its excellent wines. In 2022, Castiglion del Bosco will begin a new chapter in its history with the transfer to an international family office, which will ensure continuity and the development of the entire estate.

Wine Journalists' Rating

91/100 points Robert Parker

Here's a new surprise from Castiglion del Bosco. Made with a selection of fruit from a 20-hectare vineyard with rich clay soils, the 2020 Rosso di Montalcino Gauggiole is quite soft and silky from the start. The wine offers a delicate ensemble of wild berry, cherry, blue flower and white pepper. Pretty background tones of crushed limestone and iron ore give the wine a sense of place. In all, this is an elegant expression that underlines the true personality of young Sangiovese. I'd drink this wine over many of the heavier Brunellos out on the market today.
