Product information

Beautiful Barolo Cru Bussia from Monforte d'Alba, organic

Ruby red wine garnet reflections. In the nose aromas of morello cherries, sour cherries, peppermint, violets, blood orange and tobacco. In the mouth the wine is beautifully structured, layered, full and with a lively freshness. In the long lasting aftertaste beautiful round tannins.

The grapes come from the Bussia vineyard (1.84 ha) just northwest of the town of Monforte d'Alba. The vineyards are located at an altitude of around 350 meters with a south-west exposure. The soil type is mainly calcareous marl.

The grapes are picked by hand between the end of September and the end of October after careful selection. The grapes are then gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in large oak barrels of 50 HL, under a controlled temperature. The wine matures for a period of 30 months in large oak barrels of 30 HL. The wine is then bottled. The wine is refined in the bottle for at least 10 months before it is marketed.

About Tenuta Rocca:
The family and wine adventure of brothers Bruno and Gianni Ciravegna began in the eighties of the last century in the hamlet of Ornati, which is part of the municipality of Monforte d'Alba with a beautiful farmhouse from the 18th century, surrounded by vineyards like an amphitheatre. The company is now managed by Gianfranco Ciravegna, assisted by his son and daughter, the fourth generation. In total, the company has 20 hectares of vineyards. Since 2014, the company has been certified organic.

Barolo Monforte d'Alba wine / food pairing: braised duck with plums, or a nice cheese platter with hard and spicy cheeses.

Wine Journalists' Rating

James Suckling 92/100 points

A lot of spice, dried citrus peel and walnut notes with ripe red berry and earthy undertones. Juicy and tense with a medium body and vivid acidity. Fine, slightly dusty tannins and a core of vivid red fruit. From organically grown grapes. Better after 2026, yet already attractive.
