Annual highly rated Brunello di Montalcino from San Filippo

Ruby red wine with garnet-like glints. In the nose the wine is intense, complex, spicy, with dominant tones of morello cherry. The taste is full, harmonious, beautiful fruit, wonderfully long finish with beautiful silky tannins. The wine is Bio certified.

The vineyard is located on the east side of the town of Montalcino, at an altitude of 260-280 meters. The vineyard has a clayey soil mixed with rock and light red colored sand. The vineyards are located in the Val d'Orcia. The vineyard is planted with 4,500 vines per hectare.

The grapes are carefully selected during the manual harvest in September. The grapes are harvested in several rounds, selected for ripeness of the grapes. Fermentation first takes place in stainless steel vats, then in concrete vats, all at a controlled temperature. During fermentation, the must is regularly pumped around. The wine matures in oak barrels of 20-30 hl for a period of 24 to 28 months. After this, the wine is bottled and refines for a period of at least 10 months in the bottle in the cellars of the domain.

Brunello San Filippo wine/food pairing, perfect with a steak fiorentina, game and hard aged cheeses.

Wine Journalists' Rating

James Suckling 95/100 points

Really pretty fruit with pure berries and cherries with flowers. It's medium-bodied with medium round tannins and a juicy finish. Shows a citrusy undertone to the whole thing with fresh acidity that runs long. Give it two or three years to come together. Better after 2025.

Robert Paker 94/100 points

This wine is the equivalent of the village bottling from San Filippo. The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Dei Comunali offers a 360-degree view onto Sangiovese with tangy forest fruit, star anise, white pepper and licorice. The oak aromas take on more prominence given this wine's baritone personality. It offers a solidly constructed finish with hints of roasted coconut or macadamia nut over a spicy mid-weight finish. It unfolds to nice balance.
