Poggio alle Forche - Brunello di Montalcino DOCG - Cru Scarnacuoia 288 - 2019

Beautiful Brunello, five star vintage 2019, made by experienced winemakers.

The grapes come from several small vineyards located in the heart of the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.

In the south near Castelnuovo dell'Abate 1 ha, of which 0.5 ha was planted in 2000 for the Brunello di Montalcino. The soil type is marly with limestone. The vineyard is planted with 4,500 vines per ha.

Near the town of Montalcino there is a total of 2 ha, partly planted in 1973, partly in 1989 and partly in 1999. The soil type is tufa rock with Alberese. The vineyard is planted with about 3,000 vines per ha.

Ruby red wine with garnet glints, in the nose hints of ripe red fruit, pepper, violets, juniper and spices. In the mouth the wine is delicious, elegant, with fresh acidity and a delicious long lasting lively aftertaste with silky tannins.

The maturation of the takes place in Slavonian oak barrels for a period of 24 months in Slavonian oak barrels of 30 HL. Then the wine matures for another 12 months in concrete vats. After this the wine is bottled. In the bottle the wine refines for another 8 months in the cellars of the estate before it is marketed.

The Poggio alle Forche winery is a brand new Brunello winery, set up and managed by "old acquaintances" in Montalcino.

The company is owned by Giuliana and Lorenzo, who recently decided to start their own business after having worked for other Brunello producers for 40 years. Both are experienced winemakers and also managers of their "own vineyards". The grapes from their own vineyards have been sold to respected Brunello producers until now. The 2019 vintage of their Brunello is their first from their own production.
