Beloved Cru Ravera Barolo from Cogno in Novello from the 2021 vintage

Brilliant garnet red in color with orange highlights. Firm, elegant, and powerful on the nose, with aromas of rose, mint, tobacco, spices, coffee, licorice, truffle, leather, and minerals. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with a beautifully rounded bouquet and excellent structure and balance, scented with plum jam and wilted blackberries. The lingering chocolatey finish is harmonious and seductive. Over the years, the wine gradually refines to finally achieve its characteristics of classic elegance and depth.

The Ravera vineyard is located at an altitude of 380 meters near the town of Novello. The vineyard covers 2.5 hectares and is planted with 4,000 vines per hectare.

The grapes are hand-harvested in late September and early October and carefully selected for quality. After harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented in large steel vats, where the must is regularly circulated. The wine is aged for 24 months in large 25-30 hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels. After this, the wine is bottled. The wine matures in the bottle for at least another six months before being released.

Wine Journalists' Rating

96/100 Robert Parker

These vineyards in Novello open to the Alps and an exceptional panorama. The Elvio Cogno 2021 Barolo Ravera is made with the Lampia and Michet clones of Nebbiolo. The wine offers a distinctive character with iron ore and crushed stone behind dark fruit and pressed rose. I also get a hint of exotic spice in this gorgeous wine.

95/100 points James Suckling

Aromas of orange rind with touches of red fruit and tar. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, very well constructed, with a fine line of acidity, a good core of delineated fruit and polished yet firm tannins. Lovely to taste now, but will be better from 2026.
