Product information

Superb Cru La Morra Barolo 95-96/100 points from Elio Altare

Bright ruby red wine with garnet reflections. In the nose elegant hints of red fruit, wild strawberry, pomegranate, cherries, berries, wild rose, eucalyptus, cardamom, cinnamon and peppery hints. In the mouth the wine is warm, elegant, complex, with a seductive acidity, excellent freshness, soft round and balanced tannins and a long lasting aftertaste.

The grapes of this Cru Barolo by Elio Altare come from the vineyard located in La Morra. The vineyard is located at an altitude between 1,950 and 2,000 meters. The soil type is sandy clay marl. The exposure is south. The vineyards were planted in the 1990s and early 2000s.

The grapes are harvested by hand in September/October. A careful selection is made for quality. After this, the grapes are gently pressed. Fermentation takes place with the skins in large steel vats, the must of which is regularly pumped around. The wine matures for 24 months in used (70%) and new (30%) French barriques. After this, the wine is bottled and remains in the bottle for at least another 12 months for further refinement.

About Elio Altare:
The winery is located in the village of Annunziata, which is part of La Morra. The company is currently managed by Elio Altare's daughter Silvia. In total, the company has 11 hectares of vineyards in all sub-regions of the Barolo DOCG. Among connoisseurs, Elio Altare's Barolos are known for their complexity, finesse and exceptional expression of the terroir.

Wine Journalists' Rating

95/100 points Robert Parker

With fruit from the Altare family's historic vineyard, with rows that descend from the panoramic terrace in front of the tasting room, comes the 2019 Barolo Arborina. This wine boasts a unique flavor profile with more emphasis on tart fruit, cassis and crisp cherry. The wine is soft and velvety to the palate, and it shows finely integrated tannins coupled with a solid textural frame. Arborina is not one of the historic crus of the appellation, but it is an excellent site that is celebrated for its consistent wines.

96/100 points James Suckling

Transparent and bright with floral, orange peel and lavender. Medium to full body. Firm and racy tannins. Chewy and velvety. Purity is the right word to describe it. Drink after 2028.
