Highly rated Brunello from the five-star 2019 vintage

Ruby red wine with garnet glints in the nose aromas of cherries, blackberries, chocolate, dried fruit. In the mouth the wine is elegant, nicely layered, full of character with fresh acids and a nice lively aftertaste.

The vineyards (5 different plots) of Collemattoni (total approx. 11 ha.) are located in the southern part of the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, near Sant 'Angelo in Colle. The vineyards are located at an altitude between 350 and 400 meters. The soil type is clay mixed with a lot of sand, fossils and marl.

In September, the grapes are picked by hand after careful selection. They are then destemmed and softly pressed. Fermentation takes place, under controlled temperature, in large steel vats for a period of 20 to 25 days. The must is regularly pumped around.

The wine matures in Slovenian oak barrels of 32 hl for a period of 30 months. After this, the wine is bottled and refines for at least 4 months in the bottle in the cellars of the estate.

Collemattoni Burnello 2019 wine/food pairing:

perfect with game, stewed meat, hard cheeses such as pecorino.

About Collemattoni:

Collemattoni takes its name from the farm of the same name, which over time has become the farm's brand. The Collemattoni farm seems to date back to around the end of the 17th century. The first mentions of the Bucci family, originally from the small town of Sant'Angelo in Colle, date back to the end of the 19th century, with Giuseppe Bucci. Today the company is managed by Marcello Bucci. The vineyards are cultivated with great respect for nature.

Wine Journalists' Rating

95/100 points James Suckling

This is a really balanced and pretty young Brunello with dark-cherry and citrus character on both the nose and palate. It's medium-bodied with integrated tannins and a beautiful, succulent finish. Nicely done. Drinkable now, but better in two or three years.
