Product information

A ruby-red wine with garnet-like glints, the nose reveals wonderfully intense red fruit (raspberry, cherry), rose and dried rose, violets, and a hint of sweet spice. As the wine opens, it reveals tar, tobacco, and a light spiciness. The palate is elegant yet robust: ripe tannins with plenty of depth, juicy, fresh fruit, and a touch of saltiness. The wine has a lingering finish with red fruit and floral notes.

The grapes come from the Cru: Roggeri vineyard (La Morra subzone), located at an altitude of 300 meters and facing southeast. The soil is calcareous clay (Marne di Sant'Agata – Tortonian). The vines were planted in 1979 at a density of 4,000 vines per hectare.

The 2021 vintage saw a dry, healthy growth period with a warm, sunny September and cool nights in the final stages. The wines combine ripe fruit concentration with precision, fine acidity, and classic Barolo structure. The grapes were hand-harvested between late September and (peak) the second week of October 2021, in line with La Morra and the Langhe.

After harvest, the grapes were carefully inspected and selected again and then gently pressed. They then underwent traditional vinification with temperature-controlled maceration in concrete vats and long skin maceration for maximum extraction of aromas and structure. Further aging took place in large Slavonian oak barrels (butte), followed by further bottle aging until release.

Total production: approx. 8,000 bottles.

Wine and food pairing for the Cru Roggeri Barolo:

Classic with game (venison, hare), braised beef, stews and roasts, and mature cheeses.
Excellent with risotto with mushrooms and white truffle (Alba).

About Ciabot Berton:
Five generations of Oberto in La Morra: historic crus, handcrafted in the vineyard, concrete and bottles in the cellar – Barolo with perfume, precision, and pure terroir.
