Beautiful 96/100 points Brunello di Montalcino DOCG from the five star vintage 2019

Ruby red wine with lively sparkles. In the nose intense aromas of Mediterranean herbs, flowers from a field bouquet, berries, cherries and cedar wood. In the mouth the wine is beautifully balanced, with a delicious complexity, pleasantly fresh, delicious red ripe fruit. The aftertaste is full, harmonious with refined rounded tannins.

The grapes of this Brunello come from the Capanna vineyard, located northwest of Montalcino. The unique characteristics of this vineyard are its natural isolation, its altitude and the soil conditions, mainly clay with limestone. This soil gives the wine its refined elegance and great personality. The vineyard is located at an altitude between 350 and 400 meters. The vineyard is planted with 5,000 vines per hectare. The exposure is southwest and southeast. The vineyard is 40 hectares in total.

The grapes are harvested by hand in September after careful selection. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts in large steel vats for a period of 15 to 20 days. The wine matures for a period of 24 months in large French oak barrels of 30 and 50 HL. The wine is then bottled and refined in the bottle for another 8 to 12 months in the cellars of the estate.

About Castiglione del Bosco:
The history of Castiglion del Bosco dates back to 1100 AD, amidst armed struggles of great Sienese families, who settled here. Agriculture has always been a mainstay, as evidenced by the stables, olive groves, farmland and vineyards. In more recent history, Castiglion del Bosco became a founding member of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium in 1967. Castiglion del Bosco began a new chapter in 2003, when it was transformed by Massimo and Chiara Ferragamo to its current glory. Castiglion del Bosco has gained worldwide recognition for its excellent wines. In 2022, Castiglion del Bosco will begin a new chapter in its history with the transfer to an international family office, which will ensure continuity and the development of the entire estate.

Wine Journalists' Rating

96/100 points James Suckling

This is really fine on the palate with wonderfully integrated tannins that give tension and focus. It's medium-bodied with lovely berry, cherry, cedar and spice. Peaches and flower stems, too. Creamy texture. Extremely long and vivid. Structured, but showing beautiful drinkability with wonderful balance and form. One to drink or hold.

93/100 points Parker

Showing sweet fruit, plump cherry, cured tobacco and perfumed redwood, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino has a savory side that is nicely folded into a generous core of pronounced fruit. The wine feels smooth and soft over the palate with velvety tannins. This is a bottle you can enjoy upon release if you so choose.
