95/100 points Suckling Brunello from Capanna

In the nose intense tones of red fruit, vanilla, ethereal scents. In the mouth the wine is full, powerful, beautifully structured, layered, elegant, and a wonderfully long finish with clearly present tannins.

The vineyards of Capanna are located just north of the town of Montalcino. In total the company has 23 ha of vineyards (Montesoli). The soil type is mainly clay with rock. The grapes of the Brunello come from the oldest vineyards.

After the manual harvest of the grapes in late September, early October, they are carefully selected and then softly pressed. The spontaneous fermentation, with the natural yeasts from the vineyard, takes place in large steel vats, with the skins, for a period of 25 to 30 days. The further maturation of the wine takes place in large Slavonian oak barrels, from 10hl to 32 hl, for a period of 34 to 38 months. After this, the wine is bottled. In the bottle, it refines for at least 6 months in the cellars of the domain.

Brunello 2019 Capanna wine/food combination, delicious with meat dishes, steak, pork tenderloin and aged cheeses.

Wine Journalists' Rating

95/100 points James Suckling

Aromas of redcurrants and red flowers, followed by a touch of pie crust and sandalwood. Full-bodied with steely and sturdy tannins and vivid acidity. Dried herb character at the end. Masculine and structured. Hold until 2027.

93/100 points Robert Parker

Capanna 2019 Brunello di Montalcino initially offers a savory combination of aromas with dark fruit, teak wood and bramble. The fruit has a tart side with pomegranate or cranberry that slide into an elegant mid-palate. The wine appears quite direct in terms of its aromatic intensity, and it runs a little hot with a 14.5% alcohol content.

Ian d'Agata 96/100 points

Bright red. Gorgeously perfumed Brunello that is benchmark of what the Sangiovese grape offers in the denomination: power and finesse. The fragrant aromas of red cherry, violet and graphite speak of the northern slope of Brunello. Then lively and focused in the mouth, with an easy-drinking charm and plenty of energy to the red fruit and sweet spice flavors. The aftertaste is long and perfumed. Drinking window: 2028-2037.
