Product information

On the nose of this Barolo an elegant mix of rose, cherry, strawberry, blackcurrant, with subtle notes of tar, charcoal, lavender, plum, mint, rose petals and Mediterranean herbs

On the palate, delicious flavours of ripe cherries, strawberries, blackcurrants, plums, red currants, and dark cocoa. The wine has a medium- to full-bodied structure, with firm, silky tannins, a bright, fresh acidity, and a long, tight, and balanced finish with a light minerality and balsamic notes.

The vineyard is situated on a steep, warm hill in Castiglione Falletto; it was the first cru released in 1978. The vineyard covers a total of 1.5 hectares, with the first planting taking place in 1939. The current vines were planted around 1940, in the last century. The vineyard faces south. The soil is white limestone. The vineyard is planted with 4,400 vines per hectare. The vines are pruned according to the Guyot system. The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 285 meters.

The 2019 vintage. The grapes were hand-picked in late October, with careful selection, in several rounds. Fermentation takes place in large steel vats for 55 to 60 days. The wine is aged in large Slovenian oak barrels (botti) for 24 months. After this, the wine is bottled and matured for at least another six months in the estate's cellars.

Wine Journalists' Rating

95/100 Points Robert Parker

Bricco Fiasco is a proprietary name for a vineyard in Castiglione Falletto with 85 year old vines. Luigi Scavino says, "These vines represent a unique heritage for our family." The 2019 Barolo Bricco Fiasco (with 5,800 bottles released) is a little shy initially, with heavier berry fruit aromas that eventually relax to show campfire ash, pencil shaving and pressed rose. Put this bottle aside for a few more years.

94/100 Points James Suckling

Aromas of orange blossom, cherries, hibiscus, and rose stem follow through to a medium body, with firm and silky tannins and a fresh and bright finish. Lovely citrusy acidity to this. Drink after 2026.
