On the nose of this Barolo an elegant mix of rose, cherry, strawberry, blackcurrant, with subtle notes of tar, charcoal, lavender, plum, mint, rose petals and Mediterranean herbs
On the palate, delicious flavours of ripe cherries, strawberries, blackcurrants, plums, red currants, and dark cocoa. The wine has a medium- to full-bodied structure, with firm, silky tannins, a bright, fresh acidity, and a long, tight, and balanced finish with a light minerality and balsamic notes.
The vineyard is situated on a steep, warm hill in Castiglione Falletto; it was the first cru released in 1978. The vineyard covers a total of 1.5 hectares, with the first planting taking place in 1939. The current vines were planted around 1940, in the last century. The vineyard faces south. The soil is white limestone. The vineyard is planted with 4,400 vines per hectare. The vines are pruned according to the Guyot system. The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 285 meters.
The 2019 vintage. The grapes were hand-picked in late October, with careful selection, in several rounds. Fermentation takes place in large steel vats for 55 to 60 days. The wine is aged in large Slovenian oak barrels (botti) for 24 months. After this, the wine is bottled and matured for at least another six months in the estate's cellars.
