Barolo La Morra 2020 DOCG - four and a half star vintage

Light garnet red with ruby highlights. The bouquet reveals scents of wild rose, violet and broom. In the mouth plum, strawberry, red fig and carob, supported by sweet notes of spices and liquorice. The wine is fresh, delicate and floral, it combines a sweet and pleasant tannic structure with fresh acidity. The tannins are nicely integrated in the excellent long finish.

The wine of this basic Barolo comes from the vineyards located near the old town of La Morra in the heart of the Barolo DOCG. The vineyards were planted around the year 2000. The location is southeast and southwest at an altitude of around 300 meters. The soil is chalky clay with sand. The planting density is 3,800 vines per ha. In the vineyard, the work is done manually. The vineyards are planted with the Nebbiolo vine.

The grapes are harvested in late September, early October, after the mist (nebbia) has hung over the hills. The grapes are harvested manually, with careful selection of the best grapes. After picking, the grapes are taken to the winery, where they are gently pressed. The fermentation process takes place, with the skins, in large steel vats for a period of at least 16 days at a controlled temperature of 30°C. The wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels of 25hl for a period of 18 months. Further refinement takes place in steel vats for a period of 6 months, after which the wine is bottled. In the bottle, the wine develops for at least 6 months in the cellars of the estate.

Barolo La Morra Food/Wine pairing suggestions: excellent with roasted red meat, game and medium-mature cheeses.

About Ciabot Berton:
The foundation for Ciabot Berton was laid in 1876. Luigi Oberto bought his first vineyard, half a hectare, for 2,700 lire, in one of the best Crus in La Morra, "Rive". This vineyard is still owned by the family. The grapes from this vineyard are used for the "1961" Barolo. In 1961 the first Barolos were bottled. The current "1961" Barolo is therefore linked to this vineyard, where these old vines still stand. At the moment the company is managed by Marco Oberto. He is the fifth generation in the company. In total Ciabot Berton has 14 hectares of vineyards, all located in the La Morra Crus. Attention to quality and dedication result in elegant Barolos, which have the ability to age wonderfully.
